Liverpool Cathedral

Dave and I joined Liverpool Cathedral Choir together in 1953. At the audition four of us were chosen, Jackson, Johnston, Mather and Moore (sounds more like a firm of solicitors). We were honoured to be part of the re-enactment of Queen Elizabeth's Coronation. We became a very close family of choristers and many of us are still friends. One of the choristers, Mike Payne, was in Heswall Isolation Hospital and four of us went to visit him. This photograph is how I think of Dave in our chorister days. A few years later Dave was part of an Easter procession and in the photograph is on the back row carrying a candle. We spent a great deal of time practising at the Cathedral while our friends were out playing football. Nevertheless these were very happy days. We remained friends for many years and Dave was my best man at my wedding in 1972.
